If i am not mistaken a cooler inlet air mixture should make the engine more efficient and hence more power etc etc.
I am missing something as to why you are being told not to?

Are you talking a front mount, or above the engine?

For power intercooler will always be good on the highway, but when the going gets slow, they suffer from heat soak. All the engine heat heats the Icooler, and the air inside them. So at speed, the air flow will keep it cooler, but intercooler infront of radiator, will also heat the radiator.

Front mounts suffer from stone damage, and stucks, and cars sliding into the bank

Top mount suffer from heat soak.

I was considering a front mount. Some service centres say it increases the engine temperatures and causes the vehicle to use more fuel yet others say the opposite. Makes it terribly hard to know what is the best thing to do.

The intercooler will make for lower engine temp therefore increse the engine life.

Talk to Cooma Diesel on 02 62800178. They are the experts to talk to re Toyota, diesel and turbo charging.

Another point when considering front or top mount intercooler is that Toyota uses front mount on all their factory intercooled turbos.
