hi, just wondering if anyone has camped in the area of the Bulloo River in S.W. Qld?. Lately? At all? Thinking of venturing that way. Any info gratefully appreciated!

No JJ but the name prompted my memory....the bottom end of the Bulloo was an important staging post for the Burke and Wills expedition in 1860....they needed that spot on the way up to the Cooper.....apparently the Bulloo fizzles out into a swampy plain at the lower end.....might be plenty of water there currently....will check any responses you get.....would like to drop in there myself.

Glenno replied:

We camped out on the Paroo River between Cunamulla and Thargomindah, and around the area of Currawinya Nat Park. All very green out there and the rivers are 80% full.

We drove from Thargomindah up to Quilpie up the dirt road which runs paralel to the Bulloo river. All very nice.

Let me know if you want to know anything specific.

Lots and lots of flies around there. You get a 5sec break between the flies and mozzies at sunset and dawn!

Cheers,

Glenn.

thanks Glen for info re Bullo River. We camped at Currawinya two years ago, loved it there. We were on our way thro, trekking Qld. From there we headed up towards Jundah. This time we are doing a shorter trip and thought we would take some friends to Currawinya and then on to Innaminka. Had read about Bullo (Bullo River Retreat or sim.?) and just wondered where we might be able to camp? And what it was like thro there -despite the mozzies and flies!!( Sounds like a spot we camped at in Diamintina Gates NP!!!)
We are from south of Adelaide, but love that country up there.
Regards JJ
