Pajero NL Fule capacity

Submitted: Sunday, May 02, 2004 at 16:33

Russell [Pajero]

Let the beast run until the Low fuel light came on. Theres supposed to be approximately 11 litres in the tank at this point.

The light was just starting to come on, flickering.

I was able to put 90 litres into the 92 litre tank.

So what does it carry, 11 plus 90 = 101 litres. Allowing for the tank hose to inlet point thats a significant variation from specifications.

Any ideas on what they actually carry?

Russell.

Russell,

You probably only pumped about 82 litres into it (but paid for 90). Not the first time I have heard of this type of thing.

Is the vehicle manufacturer under quoting the capacity of the tank (doubt it) or is the servo over quoting the amount of fuel that they sold you (more likely).

Geez I hope I am wrong on this one. My Prado can swallow 180 litres of diesel in one go so if I ever fill up and it actually takes more than 175 litres as measured by the pump then I will be asking some questions!!!!

I have an NH with presumeably the same 92L tank and usually drive another 50K's after the light comes on properly - not just flickering

Can't remember ever putting more that 85L into it and was just wondering the other day if there is 5L or so that you don't get to use.

Cheers
