Geoff ,
I did not know the answer , so I contacted a friend who lives at Hervey Bay . He said that it was towards the end of the tailor season , but that the fish would be bigger at that time .
So it sounds to me like a good time to go .
Good luck ,
Willie

The best spot for tailor is the area from Indian Head to Waddy Point as that whole area (from Indian to Waddy) is their recognized spawning grounds.
They will be still thick enough in that area in early October.
You need to know that the whole of September is closed season from Indian to Waddy. (just in case you get there a bit earlier)
Gutters along the ocean beach also yield good quality fish as well, just watch for the bendy rods and you'll be in with a chance.
Take what you need and don't be greedy (please).
Have a great time
Cheers
