Hi Everyone,Could some of you great cooks out there recommend a Vacuum Sealer for me to use as I want to save a bit of coin on meat and other products for extended trips when I go away. Ken.

Value for money, I reckon it's hard to go past one of these >>

Eurolab vacuum sealer @ Deals Direct

It's what SWMBO and I have been using for several years w/- no problems to report.

Also accepts both Sunbeam & Aldi bags/rolls (and no doubt others as well)

Question ... do you want it in the van running off 12v? or 240v? or is it to be used at home to seal stuff before you trip off, and left at home while away?

Reason for asking is related to the relative efficiencies of the small, portable units versus the big semi-commercial ones, and the relative weights.

We have a commercial unit, used for our olive packaging - but it does get used to seal up food for our hiking and vanning trips (please do not tell the taxman ;) ) but it weighs a bloody ton, would not operate on 12v, and would overload a reasonable inverter within minutes.
The smaller 12v or 240v units that do not have a vacuum chamber (but such the air out of the open end of the bag somehow) do not get the same amount of vacuum in the bags, so their time before the food is "off" is correspondingly shorter.

Somewhat depends on the time factor required. A longer time will be possible from a bigger (and heavier and more expensive) unit. Ours is an "ORVED" commercial unit.
