Braidwood to Cooma road conditions

The roads from Braidwood to Cooma [Via Canberra] are all very good sealed roads. Similar from Cooma to Cann River via Bombala. At Cann River you connect with Prices Highway which is a good road. You could travel those roads pretty well on bikes, cars trucks, towing big rigs, you should have an easy and enjoyable run thru some nice country.

Its been a few years since I was on the Cooma Road - sealed from Braidwood to Snowball then good unsealed from Snowball to a few km outside of Cooma. Certainly Ok for a 2wd in good weather. my information is dated but probably still relevant, if anything the road is probably better.

Hi Bernie,

We towed a 20 ft Jayco outback starcraft caravan on this road around 18 months ago and much of it is sealed, from memory. You should have no problems with the unsealed section unless of course there has been recent rain.

A good 2WD road from Braidwood to Cooma. The first 80 km or so are sealed, then good gravel, the final 20 km to Numerella sealed and then blacktop to Cooma (30 km).

If you have the time, a good side walking trek is to the Big Hole at Berlang (East side of the road about 20 km from the end of the blacktop?). It is about a 3 hr return walk, with a crossing of the Shoalhaven River near the carpark. Uphill walk from the river, but an awesome scene at the end of it. The rest of the gravel road is good standard, passing through forestry country. Take your time on the gravel. Once onto the blacktop, you run beside the Badja River for a while. Good trout waters. Halfway between Numerella and Cooma, the views over the Monaro are spectacular.

Depending on where you want to go from Cooma, there are quite a few options other than the regular Monaro Hwy to Cann RIver and then the Princes Hwy to Bairnsdale etc. IF you are interested, PM me and I can give you details.

Rather than travelling through Numeralla to Cooma, there is an option to continue south through Kybeyan to Nimmitabel. This saves some kilometres but I'm not sure what the road condition is like - has anyone driven it? I'm thinking it's pretty standard 2WD gravel road.
