Sat Tv

Hi all, Just like to relate a story about the vast TV satellite system for travellers ,that I have encountered . Three years ago I bought the Vast satellite system and signed up to the travellers option , with free renewal every 6 months, all was ok we used it several times and have not used it for about 18 months so I sold it .The new owner registered it ok and got it set up in his yard ,to try it out before going away , but when he tuned in he got the message that he could not receive the signal because it was not updated for so long .Both he and I rang Vast and we were told that if the set top box is not switched on and updated regularly ie every two months or so ,there will be too many updates for them to send out ,so use the set top box as a paperweight and buy a new one .This seems a bit strange to me but that is what we were told ,so if any one has a Vast satellite system ,switch it on regularly to keep is updated ,unless anyone knows if this in fact true ?? .He did have it set up perfectly by the way .
Regards
John

Don't know if that is true or not but we had a dish installed at home and use it to watch the GWN News, love getting the local stories from the bush.

Only takes 5 minute to unplug and throw into the van when going away and always know that it is working when we do.

Hi John,

I have left mine for over 18 months without switching it on and all I had to do was sign up again and wait for the download and it works fine.

From my experience you should tune it in every 2 weeks for updates. I have left it over 6 months and I just wait for the downloads, it can take up to 24 hours to do that.

No need for a new one, just wait for them to update it.

Cheers Andy

I leave my vast unplugged for 6 months at a time and when I reconnect it I just go to the VAST website and enter my card number and hit the resend button on the site and it sends the update via satellite almost instantly. The picture then pops up on the screen.

The general idea is common to all set top boxes. Even Foxtel will crap out if not left plugged in all the time.
However, that should not stop the manufacturer being able to update it. After all, it hasn't gone faulty.
