Im hoping to find some info on the Starke track to Wakooka
ruins. I plan on doing this on a trail bike mid May 2016 but with the cyclone in 14 and council not maintaining it any more I was wondering if it reopened. We plan on leaving
cairns doing the
creb track then stopping at lions den for a feed and heading of to Elim beach. Its been years since I was out there with Eddie. then up thru Starke,
cape Bedford,
cape Melville,
Bathurst head, kalpower,then down towards Palmer goldfields via Mt Mulligan then back to
Cairns. We only have 4 days so we will be keeping a fair pace. Is there any where special we should not miss. Cheers FGCRAZY

Wow four days for that trip! Man that sure is keeping up the pace. What have you got planned for fuel? We saw a couple of bikes at Lions Den last year waiting for fuel as they were then going to the
CREB track, then
Daintree as their next fuel stop but they were worried they'd fuel out before
Daintree.

It is highly unlikely that you can accomplish this in May 2016.
The CREB is not normally deemed open until June at the earliest, this year opened in July then closed until August for
bridge building.
Starcke can be got to, but NPWS normally wont be opening access to
Kalpowar until around July.
As far as "anything special that you should not miss", with only 4 days, reality means you may need to even bypass Melville and
Bathurst proper and stick to the main track as I am sure that NPWS will have gated Melville off until late June.
Keep an eye on
Cook Shire Road closures (click here) as its one of the most accurate for the Cape.
Good luck though, keep checking with the Rangers and
Cook Shire.

Mate I went along Starkes track around 2009 and the track was good-- all things considered Good, Went back july this year and as you may be aware there has been a fair bit of rough weather the last couple of years and it shows on the track, the track has been water damaged , trees across the track forcing you to weave of the track into the bush 90% of the time, While i still enjoyed the trip again it was very slow and if I may suggest ,on a bike with a moderate rider dangerous!!!!!!!!! Please take a little more out there as it can be different dodgeing cattle and other wildlife on narrow tracks with every posability of someone coming the other way.
