i have recently bought an early jackaroo with a 2 litre petrol engine and i was wondering if the old straight 6 holden engine will fit in without having to change the gearbox?

Hi Tim
My first Jackaroo was a 2 ltr
i don,t think the 6 will go?????????????
However I do know that you will have extra stress on the drive gear i. e.
the front cv joints in particular.
Also if you have duel tanks check out the chassis ( drivers side ) for rust
were mud and stuff has stuck between the tank and chassis.
I would be interested to know how you go
good luck
Brian

There was a conversion available for old Holden 6 cyl motors. Marks adapters ?? may be able to advise. I sold my 82 Jackaroo 2 years ago but stuck with the 4 cyl. The motors only last about 120 000km ! I rebuilt mine twice and it had different Cam, extractors and 2" exhaust. Great workhorse and it never broke down - just have to be patient up hills etc and best at 90km on Hwy, you know the story about the hare and the tortise !! - it's true. Good luck.

Rod Hadfield, Castlemaine Rod Shop, has a conversion kit for just this application. It allows a holden 6cyl to bolt straight up to the original gearbox.
The same style of engine block was used in the Gemini (1600), KB Rodeo (1600,1800,2000cc), and Jackeroo. Have done the conversion on a KB Rodeo
and the biggest drama was moving the custom radiator forward to clear the water pump. I say custom because the original sized radiator is not of big
enough capacity for the holden 6.
