12 volt fan for <span class="highlight">caravan</span>

Do not bother fit an inverter and run a 240 volt fan,you will find that will work far better.

We have the 12v caframo Sirocco "made in Canada " they are the best 3 speed and quiet work brilliantly can be bought on eBay for $139 been around for some time also used in the marine industry.

Another vote for the Caframo Scirroco 12v fan, Whitworths sell them too. 3 speeds and four time settings so can be switched on and will shut down after 2,4,6 or 8 hours while you sleep if required.
Apparently they are no longer made in Canada, now made in China like nearly everything else but quality is still similar to the Canadian ones.

I have a 12 inch 240 volt fan I got from K Mart for $5.00 and run it off my inverter. Draws max 40 watts, approx 4 amps at 12 volts.at full power, about half that at low speed. Quiet,

Another vote for the Caframo Sirocco. I have 2 - one in the TVan and one in our Caravan. They are quiet, push plenty of air and only consume 0.4Amp on 12V. 3 speeds and a timer that can be set for 2,4 or 8 hours, which we use all the time. $139 on special at Whitworths or delivered on EBay - you get what you pay for.
I fit strong magnets to the base so I can move the fan wherever I like - inside/outside or wherever. I screwed a thin metal plate under our top cupboards in the caravan so I can use the magnets and have it either facing the bed or facing the table.

I searched for the same and came to the conclusion that the choice was between the Sirroco, which seemed overpriced but probably the only quality choice, and the cheapies. I bought one cheapie on spec from ebay and trashed it after looking at it. Did not even bother to try it as it was just too poorly made.

Personally I try to limit 240v appliances to fixed ones for the campers on safety grounds. Having said that it is amazing that you can buy quite a decent quality 240v oscillating fan for a fraction of a 12v one. Yes I know about quantity issues but still says something about the perceived market.

More votes for the Sirrocco 12v.

I have two in my trailer - one on either side. I face them in opposite directions and they give great air movement.

Well worth the money.

I fitted my Sirocco onto a TV swing arm so that I can direct it to the table, or the bed.

Another vote for Sirocco. We have two in our camper and two in our van. Power use is absolutely minimal.

Recently bought a 40cm desk fan from Bunnings. Model is Mistral MHSDCF40. Its 12v 15w. 3 speed. Works really well just as good as a similar sized 240 volt model. Cost around $34. Comes with cig. Plug and battery clamp leads. Cheers Craig

I have a Companion rechargeable box fan which I bought in Broome at the camping store for AFAIR $139.
It has a 12 volt lead acid sealed battery which lasts about 4 hours on low and provision for a second battery for another 4 hours.
So the battery can be recharged while driving through an inverter or it will run on 240 volts.
It blows out plenty of air for my camper trailer on low.
I am currently using it on 240Volts in my house and it is great, although pretty big at normal box fan size, but quite light.
Oh it also has an LED light .

Another vote for Caframo - we lost our awning in the Kimberley with 43 deg average temps and don't knothole we'd have handled it without the fan. Quiet, uses bugger all power and you can set the timer when you hit the sack.

And another vote for the Sirocco. Any fan that's named after a wind has to be good?

The timer is the best feature, set it for 2, 4hrs or longer, and when you awake, it's off and you're not lying there shivering.

Sirocco for me. 2 x in the caravan. One each side that can be swivelled and directed towards the bed or back to the table/kitchen area. Excellent fan - quiet, low power draw, timer. Happy wife......
