2004 hdj100 air con issues

If you are talking about the switch that shuts the AC off if the engine cooling system reaches a set temp and if it's in the same location as the 1HD-FT engine (the non electronic fuel pump version of the 1HD-FTE) it's located in the top left hand side of the engine. From memory there were 2 switches in that location. One was for the AC and I can't remember what the other one was for off the top of my head. Might have been for the temp gauge on the dash or something to do with restricting the auto tranny upshifts.

Dave, had a similar problem with my pajero. Aircon would start off ok and then cut out, switch off for a few minutes and it would restart cold. Two regas and pressure tests by aircon "specialists" revealed nothing !
Auto sparky found the aircon relay was the fault, it would heat up and cut out, and it would cool down fairly rapidly. A $20 replacement fixed the problem. Can't help you with the location of it in your vehicle but it is a cheaper option to explore than a regas and pressure test.

G'day Dave,
I had a brand new Holden company car some years back that had similar symptoms.
There was a faulty pressure switch near the condenser that is supposed to protect the aircon compressor by switching it off if the refrigerant leaked away.

Apparently the refrigerant contains a pump lubricant hence the reason to make the compressor clutch disconnect.

I have had this happen to me twice in the 13 years i have owned my HZJ105 . The first was the fan hub wasn't engaging proberly , Adding the Toyota silicon fix this . Second was a few weeks ago , air would be icy cold for approx 15 mins then run hot .If you manually switch it off for a few minutes then back on , it would be cold again. It was slighting down in gas, a top up fixed this . When i lived in Cobar western NSW a lot of 100/105 had air con drop outs in summer due to the heat coming of the hot bitumen tripping the air con sensor switch, most were the vehicle that had radiators that weren't operating efficiently .

Make sure the condenser and radiator airways have good flow,
and that the fan clutch is working properly,

evaporator very dirty causing very low temps due to fin blockage [drops temp quickly ] the thermostat/thermistor then cuts the compressor out .[ U can not feel the lack of air flow when the evap very very dirty ]

high pressure switch cutting out
check condensor clean and viscous fan appear to work no cracks or leaks

Evaporaters require cleaning every 100,000kms to maintain good aircon performance
