Hello, has anyone completed the Hanns track recently? I am driving from Perth to Weipa in September and will be doing the Hanns track as part of the trip, I would appreciate anyone's recent experience of travelling the track.

I drove Hann's Track from Bishop Riley's Pulpit to Point Lilian in late August 2015. There were fairly well defined wheel tracks most of the way. In rocky areas stone cairns showed the route. Large areas were recovering from recent bush fires (probably one or two years ago) which made route finding and driving easier. In unburnt areas the vegetation in the middle of the track was usually less than 50cm high. I staked one tyre but it would be easy to damage more.

I think it is essential to carry a copy of Hann's Track by Ian Elliot (available in Exploroz's shop). This booklet has a very detailed description of the route including numerous GPS waypoints which are necessary at times. The booklet also has a lot of information about Frank Hann and describes the location of numerous rockholes and Aboriginal art sites which are rewarding to locate.

I would recommend travelling from West to East. The complex track notes are described in that direction and a jump up near Amy Rockhole is easier to drive up than down.

Overall Hann's Track is slow and rough but interesting and satisfying to complete. It is very remote and you are unlikely to see another vehicle. The upside is there are no corrugations.

Well put John C!6, having done the track twice your description and suggestions are spot on.
