Was doing a little electrical work over the weekend on our van we have had since new.
Discovered this amazing piece of electrical workmanship on a connection after the manufacturer relocated our batteries dues to a mistake he had made.
Note the red and black wired together.
The 4 strands that are left in the lug were going to the bank of two batteries.
Found this work when I pulled on the single wire and it came out of the lug leaving just 4 strands

The others go to various
places including the Anderson plug on the van.
The van was built by an
Adelaide manufacturer close by Mawson Lakes. And its not Noels

How about this for a quality factory installation? It has been de-identified to protect the guilty!

Why protect the guilty... The bastards will just keep getting away with it.
Until there is some form of regulation for 12 volt electrics, this is what we will get.
I paid good money to have all the usual accecesories PROFFESIONALLY INSTALLED to my 4WD. One stopped working. Thinking it was a fuse, I went looking for it - I did not expect what I saw.
No fuses, wires twitched together with a bit of electrical tap over the end (some so thin the wire had pierced the ends waiting to short out) Red wire connected to black wire, two black (same colour used for pos and neg) wires powering an accessory.
Fortunately this bloke went out of business before he could rip to many people off and my pride and joy burnt to the ground. All Wass fixed by a local 4WD store who were happy to have me watch what they were doing.
Cheers
Anthony

Looks like my Johnnos Evolution camper trailer when I bought it.
Rewired the entire camper real quick.
Just goes to show, you don't always get what you pay for.

How was the lug insulated from everything, Geoff?
About the only thing positive(pun intended) about the photo is the nyloc nut. The joint may not have come apart, even on rough roads. Really slack "workmanship"!!!

It's not only
Caravan Dealers who do this sort of thing. An Auto Elec wired up my Anderson plug for the dealer before I picked up the vehicle. Direct off the main battery, no fuse, no isolator. I supposes you could excuse the Isolator, although he did charge the dealer $300.00 for the job, but no fuse?

Just thank your lucky stars that these knobs didn't do the 240v wiring as
well.
Then again, maybe they did (:-((

Not unusual in the Aus unregulated 4X4 industry.
Installed a stereo in mums car therefore I am a fully qualified auto electrician...
I don't cost much to hire either...

Guys,
I strongly recommend you
check the 12DC supply voltage at the back of the fridge, as dodgy wiring on my van resulted in a 3V drop from plug to fridge rendering the 12DC performance almost completely ineffective. Re - run it in heavy duty cable direct point to point and get about .25V drop, fridge works much better!
Found lots of other dodgy bits and working thru them but van was 8YO when I bought it so lots of so called professionals have had a go in the past.
Patrolster.
