I purchased
EOTopo recently and, as I was planning a trip around Australia when I bought it, I took the time before I left
home to download the complete map set (ie, approximately 2.3Gb of maps) to my PC before copying it to my iPad (GPS capable) and iPhone. However, when I was on Fraser Island last week (where I had no internet coverage) I discovered that Memory-Map would not display the detailed map of my current location correctly on my iPad because of a 'Communication Failed' error (the error message also reported "internet communication with map server has failed"). I am now in
Maryborough and have discovered that Memory-Map will *NOT* display the detailed OETopo maps I have installed unless I have an internet connection. I realise this is probably a Memory-Map issue (I have version 1.6.6-353 of the app installed on my iPad) but it means I cannot use the
EOTopo maps without an internet connection (which means I won't be able to use them in many parts of Australia). Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?

I have been using memory map for about 5 years now and only had that problem when I didn't download the map I wanted. Email memory map as their are very helpful and should be able to get it sorted for you

After reading your post again, I think the problem could be with the ipad, ensure you have gps enabled, and
check the specs aswell to make sure it has AGPS/GLONASS.

My iPad Air has 4G/GPS functionality, I'm certain I have the maps properly downloaded and location
services is definitely enabled for Memory-Map. When I start Memory-Map without having internet access the map does not display correctly and I get the error message. However, when I start Memory-Map with internet access the same map *immediately* displays correctly without any data being downloaded - it's as if Memory-Map wants to
check the map server every time I move to a different part of the map. As a result of the Memory-Map issue I ended up having to use an old version of MudMap on Fraser Island last week and it performed flawlessly.

I too use EOToppo on Memory Map, without problem, provided that I have downloaded the correct section of the map. I used it on Fraser Island without problems about a month ago. I use an Android Nexus pad.
Like the man said, email MemoryMap. They are very helpful.
Cheers, Kevin

I had no real joy with Memory Map until I deleted it. That fixed it.
The constant checking of license went on regardless of how or what I downloaded.
I now use Samsung (Andriod) with ozi for Android, EO maps, and its amazing. One download, and its no dramas from there

Perhaps you downloaded the maps to a folder on your ipad that Memory Map doesn't recognize? By that I mean, the folder is in a folder location that Memory Map doesn't search by default. You can easily
check what maps are on the device by using the "more maps - all maps on this device" menu options and see what maps are listed.
