Hi all, just putting together an itinerary and cant figure out which way would be better to go from Sydney to Birdsville. We would love to see the Cordillo Downs Shearing Shed etc but we will be leaving Molong on Friday the 1st (very early) and want to be in/around/near Birdsville Sunday night the 3rd. I'm thinking that is nowhere near enough time. Any suggestions on alternate routes? I have googled but no I'm just confusing myself completely :)

Cheers
Lou

Lou
That's a fair way out of your way in a short time if you are going to Birdsville
You may need another 2 days or so , even that would be pushing it . I gather you are going though Innamincka . I think you may need to give the readers a bit more info.

Cheers

Thanks Mark, I'm just trying to figure out if going through Innamincka is an option or if we should wait and do that on the way back with more time. Also if we dont have enough time to go up via Innamincka I'm looking for the best alternate option.

Considering what you said to Mark just above here;

Go direct to Birdsville via Drive from Obley Rd, A32, Mitchell Hwy, Adventure Way/Bulloo Developmental Rd, and Birdsville Developmental Rd to Birdsville
22 h 17 min (1,734 km).

If you have time coming home then do a side trip to Innamincka via Cordillo Downs and then back up to the black top and home the way yopu came.

This would be the fastest way and I simply got it from Google Maps.

If you have more time for the trip home, then consider Innamincka to Tibooburra, White Cliffs, Wilcannia, Nyngan and back to Molong. Thats 56 h (3,267 km)
Not a small trip but if you think of it - It is a bloody long way back to see what you missed.

All this straight from Google Maps.

Cheers

Phil

The best way to pn quick trips is to use Google Maps or some other travel planner.

Molong to Birdsville

That reckons you have 1734 Km to drive (or 22 h 17 m.)

You could look at the following.

Molong > Wilcannia > Tibooburra > Innamincka > Cordillo Downs > Birdsville, or

Molong > Cobar > Louth > Wannaring > Tibooburra > Innamincka > Cordillo Downs > Birdsville

There are options, but either way you go you’ve got a fair bit of distance to cover in 3 days.

The first route is only a few kilometres longer but it stretches the driving time out fro 22 1/2 hours to 40.

You gave an alternative. The OP has a time constraint. You did not give him any guidance as to the implications of going that route so I did it for you.

Lou, a big day and you could reach Eulo via Cunamulla from where youll be. head up to Dubbo and north to Bourke.
From Eulo its an easy run across to Innaminka, then over walkers crossing and up to Birdsville on the track.
I took this route with a camper trailer, loaded for a 7 week fishing/hunting trip in the NT.
My Itinerary;
Day 1, from the Central Coast to Eulo.
Day 2, Eulo to Innamincka, easy 500k drive.
Day 3, Innamincka to Birdsville, did this with a motor that went into limp mode a 150 times due to an air leak in the fuel filter.
Regards Mick.

Yeh Lou, even with the car mucking up, we did the 300 odd K's in 6hrs. Not a bad track across Walkers.
