Has anyone been across the Hyden to Norseman Rd since the w/e 28/9 May.
I am driving a relatives Forester to Sydney, been over the road many times but I am aware that there was heavy rain in the area over the w/e, I don't need to get the vehicle too muddy as I will have to clean it up after the trip.

Have a look at the kondinin shire web page. Road status and some phone numbers are there.

It's a Mine Site Access Road
Unfortunately they haven't sealed it yet>
So 2 choices
1. Dust
2. Mud

Maybe you can fins a Scout ( or similar ) car wash when you get there.

It was not closed during May rains. Friends travelled through on the 12th and 13th of May following some rain and found it in good order.

Looking at last weekend, Norseman has received no rain during the past week, and Hyden received 2 millimetres each of Saturday and Sunday; barely enough to lay the dust. What area received heavy rain? BOM recording stations are some distance apart.

Enjoy the drive.

We travelled Sunday 22/5. Road had closed signs at Hyden end but Info office at Wave Rock obtained permission from Shire Engineer for us to use road. From Hyden to mines wasn't bad but from mines to Norseman was sloppy particularly in road centre where mine trucks travel. Landcruiser in 4WD and van were covered in mud by Norseman. Further rain would only make things more messy. If road has dried out there will be hard ruts everywhere until it is graded.

Just off topic for a minute, has anyone noticed a flag pole, with an Aussie flag on it, think it's about 100 odd kilometres from Noresman, near I think, some kind of lake, there is a sharper bend in the road.. Just asking.. Was unloading a semi load of steel in Canberra, and talking to the driver, Charlie, about traveling and WA, said he used to drive through there, and put it there as a bit of a braking marker, so something, I can recollect seeing it, but not to sure.. Cheers Odog
