I just spoke to someone who visited Mitchell Falls and said at least 200 people there!
Thats crazy not sure where they would all camp .When I was there it was just free camping only 4 vehicles, obviously times have changed .Must be a bit hectic on the narrow tracks going up there! Has anybody had recent experience going up there be good to hear about it.? Thanks

Don't forget to factor in an allowance for exaggeration :-). And there are a number of accommodation options in that region - a lot of people probably make just a day trip of it.

As above - an exageraton maybe. When we went there a few years back the camp was bigger but half empty with a heap of people camped back at the river and driving to the falls and back to sleep.

But 200. Ouch!

The wife and I only had one other couple accompany us when we toured the falls 2 years ago and what a view.

I guess you get that when circling about 500' above though....lol

Yeah I guess we did miss the experience of getting there by "the track"

Although the corrugations on the Kalumburu "Road" made up for that to some degree.....lol

Cheers

Haha - just waiting for our helicopter at the moment - we are on a boat in Hunter River and they fly us out over Mitchell Falls then a plane ride back to Broome. Will do a head count from above :-)

We went in there in 2013 in late June, stayed 2 nights at the campground and would estimate probably 50- 70 people camping, and Lo s more day trippers. It's hard to put an exact number but it wouldn't have been 200. Thankfully the Kalumburu road keeps the numbers down. Drysdale Station campground would have had 200 there though. Get in early there if you like your shower hot.

Was there last week - one day above it in a plane and the next by car and foot. Nothing like that number.

But there's always random variation.

What's crazy is guys driving big rigs like they're doing the Finke. No slowing down or moving to the side. The next pea-brain to do my windscreen will have me after him and there will be consequences.

I should have added this before.

We went on a helicopter tour to the falls and over close to the coast. Costly as we elected to go without anyone else, but worth every penny.

As we say - It's a long way back".

Do it if you can - You won't regret it.

It's a different view from up there ain't it. You really appreciate how big the place is.

We took the plane tour from Drysdale Station. Couple of hours, you fly a big rectangle taking in Prince Regent River, Mt Frederick and the coast and then the falls.
