Article Comment: ExplorOz Traveller Feedback & FAQ

We downloaded the app onto our 7" Samsung Tablet, unfortunately it only has 8GB of internal storage, not enough to download all the offline maps. It is running on Android Version 4.4.4 but having similar problems to nick b, not tracking well when offline. I have two questions, you have mentioned working on being able to save maps to external storage but what is the realistic timeline that this might happen? Secondly we would be prepared to purchase another tablet with more storage but would like assurance that the app will work better on a newer tablet. Finally maybe a question for others, is an 8" tablet going to be too big to suction mount to the windscreen?

G,Day Rob : David is working on the tracking ....
I have a cheap ebay type tablet windscreen mount on my tractor that works okay .
regarding the storage i think that why its been split up into 3 parts .. but it might be good if we could store offline maps externally
we need to keep in mind that the app is in the early stages of development & just like the website improving all the time .

Firstly this is not a criticism of Exploroz Traveller. We don't need tracking.

Just a comment on safety. We won't have anything simply stuck to the windscreen with suction cups.

The only things stuck on the the windscreen are the rear view mirror, a tollway gizmo and a Blackview dash camera, both using a very strong glue. The camera and tollway device are behind the mirror, getting a little security from the mirror mount.

I don't want to be hit in the head by something flying around the cabin. No way. I have seen what can happen.

Your choice as always.

Rob69,

Android 4.x does not seem to play well with the intelligent movement detection system we are using the the GPS drivers. I can assure you that a V5+ Android system will not have this problem. However in saying this I have just published 1.8.7 which has work around for the Android 4 problem (not as battery efficient but should work). I am keen to hear results from you guys if this does in fact track better. I have not installed a settings screen for the timer in this workaround but if it solves it I could.

In terms of internal vs external - there are a number of issues and reasons for this mostly related to complete lack of standards in manufactures specific Android versions and their implementations of external storage. I can work around a number of these issue but one that is harder is performance of the SD type memory. it is being looked at and worked on. I cannot say exactly when but I am hoping sooner rather than later certainly not in the next month (but one never knows when a break through may occur).
