Hi,

Wondering if there are any travelers out there running Hema Explorer on a Samsung Galaxy TAB 2?

Your opinion on the pros and cons would be appreciated.

I have it on an iPad, bought it on special for $30 plus an extra 20% off by using officeworks permanently discounted cards.
The maps are very nice especially when zoomed out so trip planning is somewhat easier than with the ExplorOz app and you can manually plan a route easily which isn't the case with Exploroz app.
I like them both ,more places of interest shown with the Exploroz app and the treks are a bonus.
As I'm a bit of a mug I also have a number of other map apps , they all do things a little bit differently so at various times I will use several.
Wait till it's on special again then grab a copy.

I run Memory Map, which is the platform used by hema, on a samsung 10.1 note and love it. I personally prefer the memory map packages as you get hema as well as oztopo maps and don't have to pay the ridiculous upgrade fee that hema want to charge you.

Use it on a Samsung Tab S 10.5 which is older and it's pretty good.
Had to get a 2A charger and a dedicated USB charge cable to keep it charged though.
Otherwise the battery level would be dropping as it consumed more current than it was getting.

I was using Hema Explorer on aTab 2 but I also have EO Traveller that I now use as I like it better. Good clear maps with multiple zoom levels and the maps are more up to date than Hema's.

Thank you Kevin and the other peoples that helped me make an informed decision.
Will buy the EO Traveller on SD micro chip and hopefully this will fit into my Garmin nuvi and Samsung Tab2 .
Cheers

Version 3 of Hema Explorer runs to over 5 gig storage with all the standard maps, so it's either get plenty of memory or just install the state or two that you need (and remember to change them if heading elsewhere). These are the 150 K or so maps.

I only upgraded to 3 as I'd got 2 on special for something like $20 (Android version). While the scale is improved I retain doubts about the accuracy. My first check against an area I know well in the Vic high country showed one walking track as a vehicle track, a mountain labelled with a name that was changed several years ago, only a limited number of track names and no gates. But the maps are nicely drawn and the contours useful.

I'm a fan of the large scale contour maps produced by the States (25K and 30K in Vic) and these come with the added subscription version. But I already have Oztopo for Garmins that covers the country at c. 25K and will stick with it for the moment.
