Interested in any comments or
feedback on the Inreach .
Sounds good for texing and receiving messages when out of mobile coverage.
But for 6 weeks a couple of times a year can the costs be managed.

In todays world once out of mobile cover in remote areas you should have two way communication in case of an emergency. A satphone is best but these devices are a close second. My life is valuable to me so I always have a satphone, a Spot device, and a PLB.

I was lucky to trial one of these about 4 years ago.
It tracked our trip very
well. Our sons were able to see where we were at any time.
I also communicated to and from them several times by text messages from where there was absolutely no mobile coverage.
When we go remote again, we will certainly be considering purchasing one of these Inreach Communicators.

The cheapest is buy a Motorola 9505A satfone off Ebay and stick a roamed postpaid Telstra sim in it when you need it Costs nothing unless you make a call. Communicates both ways but you pay for calls both in and out.

With the changing technolegy, posts older than about 6 months are obsolete. The cost to stay in touch when you are remote is very affodable now, and for the safety of yourself and others with you should be able to communicate with the outside world in any emergency.

We bought one 2 years ago and have not had any problems. It can be linked to an ipad to make typing easier ,and sends location with any message sent. Cost is $19.95 per month but can be disconnected when not in use and costs $9.95 per month.

IMO the tech is good but the cost exorbitant.
Also if you can't touch type it's hard to have a dialogue eg when you're being talked through a mechanical job or some
first aid.
