Have done some homework on this myself, in regard to a 1HZ with 200 plus ks. Budget for $3800 approx. for all the right goodies.(New exhaust system, turbo timer, snorkel etc.) If your car has more than 175 - 200 ks on it, consider re-shelling the bottom end (another 500 odd $s). Do you really need the full 125 kws? Ask about lowering the boost to get around 20% extra power. Will still help greatly when towing and overtaking, and may also prolong engine life. 5000k oil changes become crucial. You wont get better economy if you drive it like a TURBOCHARGED BEAST. Having said all that I would do it to my 1HZ Troopy if it was in the budget. Forget James Bond, you only live once. Do it now, to hell with the expense, but treat it with respect.

I did this to my 97 80 series. Best thing I ever did for it. A lot more pickup for overtaking and tows a 1 tonne camper a lot easier.
It is a DTS fitted by the Toyota dealer. Cost $3000 neat but no 3 inch exhaust. It was fitted at 69K and the unit really started to feel it was free after 105ks on the clock.
Only problem I had was the oil return line came loose from the sump (up in Cape York!). The dealer reimbursed me for the cost of the repairs when I returned home. It runs 10psi boost, no inter-cooler:(
Mind you, after $3k spent, I would have liked the damn thing to whistle when given a boot full but alas - it doesnt.
The same dealer also fitted a 9000lb super winch for $1450, cheaper than a warn by at least $600. Shows that the dealers are not always the most expensive. Pays to check around.

I have just fitted a DTS turbo to my Training vehicle, an 80 series GXL wagon. Power jumped from a poor 60 HP at the rear wheels to 110HP the change in the vehicle is unbelievable we are just fine tuning a compromise between power and economy ATM. My truck has done 240,000 ks at the time, cost was just under $3k which included tappet adjust and complete check beforehand.

David I have had turbo on my 1HZ troopy for 177000 km running about 8 psi. I use it for work and including a trailer weighs in at 4.6 tonnes .
I have had no trouble with the engine what so ever but the transfer case was rebuilt about 70000km ago & the gearbox is now asking for help
You wont know your toyo if you go ahead .I am thoroughly satisfied with mine
