Well I just had the 50000km service done by the trusty Nissan dealer and happened to mention to him that the battery was well down on fluid, and was just replaced with a new one after 3 years, a bit short life I redckon, anyways, the kindly Nissan shop dropped the Patrol off at the ARB place to check the suspension going ka-doing whilst track driving at the Outback Challenge.

The suspension was fine but the passenger front wheel bearing was loose, which the ARB man kindly nipped up for me. And he happened to mention that the bearings looked like they hadnt been touched since new, hmmmmm they should have been repacked at 40000....

Went back to the Nissan man wanting to know why they hadnt been touched and why the bearing wasnt checked at 40000 or noticed at 50000, and adding the battery into the discussion they just reserviced the car today, and what a difference, the handbrake even feels better, the 3.0 sings along the road better lots of good signs...except what have they been doing for all the other services and what else will they miss in the future? Methinx they wont miss anything as the local Holden (sadly) garage will be servicing from now on, at least till the 3.0 blows up and Nissan get a chance to replace it under warranty.

Its the fundamental dichotomy of 3.0l Nissan ownership Ray, you hope like hell if it goes it does while your warranty is in place (thats 5 years for me) then you hope like hell it will go a "reasonable" time after warranty is gone (maybe another year) and then you hope like hell it'll happen to someone else.

And although I love the car its a real worry, (in 3 yrs time anyway)

I'd stick with the crappy Nissan dealer. Dont give them any excuse not to reaplace the dead motor when time comes.

Mine was never serviced by a dealer but they still replaced it , just make sure they stamp the book.
