Hi Brian
I hired a 3 lt Turbo Patrol while I was touring South Africa and up into Mozambique for 3 months and was very surprised how well it performed. I normally drive the 4.2 diesel for work and have 6.5 chev diesel in my own Patrol ute, so I’m used to a much larger engine however, the new 3.0lt Patrol handled everything I through at it very well (Provided I had selected the right gear). My father recently bought one of the new 3.0lt patrol himself and has been very happy with it so far, and has had no problems off or on road.
Hope this helps.

Ya should have kept the 80 series !!!
And before anyone joins in on the debate, Brian is my friend and neighbour and we don't really care much what people drive, so long as they're happy.

Brian,

They have a few small problems, check www.offroad.au.com or the Patrol forum on Yahoo...

They have a tendency to brake the serpentine belt pulley when driven through water/mud (the engine sits too far back almost in line with the front axle)...

The early ones had some engine problems, and they still have computer problems which is apparently altitude compensation, they are testing a new fix apparently...

All the diesel specialist say the pump is not very resistant to bad fuel ie: one load of bad fuel and thats it for the pump ($6000) apparently.... they are not rebuildable like the 4.2 or even like the new 4.2 cruiser...
