Prado Auto Trans, To Cool Or Not To Cool

Submitted: Sunday, Mar 18, 2001 at 00:00

Peter

Do I fit a second transmission oil cooler to my 98 World Cup V6 Prado or not? The dealers think so, Toyota Australia arent committing, saying the vehicle has a warning light to alert the driver to the situation. Transmission tempreture is apparently tied into the computer system and they cant predict the outcome if there is aditional cooling. I am about to start towing a 2,500 kilogram caravan. Can anybody help? PLEASE. Cheers

Peter,I have a 97 Prado auto110.000km and tow a camping trailer about1100kg on long trips and over sandy terrain,so far never experience any trans. overheating it may be a good idea if you are to be driving over very hillie country to keep the O/D off and keep a good eye on things

Thanks for the good advise Joe, I have been confused about this issue for a while. My main concern is if I cook the transmission, with my luck I will be a thousand kilometres from anywhere. I recently had the transfer case assembly replaced under warranty (54,000km). The dealer told me that job was worth about $4,500.00. What is a transmission worth? Cheers
