Off road camper trailer on Googs track

Submitted: Monday, Mar 19, 2001 at 00:00

Sandra Brown-Kenyon

We are experienced off roaders who have recently purchased a Kanga off road camper trailer.
Our current vehicle is a GU Patrol (4.5 ST) which we took over the Simpson last year (no trailer involved)
We are going along Googs track at Easter and wondered if it is suitable for an off road camper.
Any feedback from travellers who have recently been on the track would be appreciated.

Hi Sandra
We took an off road trailer up Googs track two easters ago; towed it with an NL Pajero auto and was quite loaded.
We had no problems at all; no bogging and damage.
Having said that - there are some longish sand hills which needed a good run-up and some of these were quite badly corrugated (heading south to north) in parts (so we did bounce a bit from time to time). Most of the track is very straight forward (but as youd know remote).
But if youre experienced, and somewhat cautious you shouldnt have any problems (provided things havent changed too much).
By way of context for my opinion, we always take things pretty easy, but do treat sand hills with respect.

Thanks for that info Greg. I have spoken to Jenny Denton and she also says it shouldnt be a problem. she advised that the track was fairly packed down (lots of traffic) and the hills have longish run ups.
