I have recently purchased a new Prado after bidding a teary goodbye to my Troopy,
I have noticed the LSD slips quite badly sometimes, I have taken it back to Toyota and they now tell me that the LSD isn't really an LSD after all even though they advertise it as an LSD!!!
Has anyone else had this problem or is mine special? Does anyone know someone from Toyota that i should be talking too?

Toyota LSD's are common to die round 15-20000klms.. how many yours done..

I have heard the not an lsd thing before here I think... but if your unhappy take it back, if its advertised as LSD then demand one, or a locker ;)

Q: When is an LSD not really an LSD?

A: When it looks like the dealer might have to spring for a new one...

If it's advertised as having an LSD, I'd kick up a really big stink until I got one.

He doesnt have to, Toyota does. He tells them its rooted, they send another, he fits it - everyone is happy..

If the car has traction control, I dont think it comes with an LSD.

If it is just an lsd, and you expect it to work like a locker, it wont, never will, was never designed to.

An LSD relies on "some" traction on one wheel, to engage the cutch pack, and transmit some drive to the other wheel.

I think the "not really an LSD" is probably a backhanded comment on the toyota LSD, and its time frame of working correctly.

That's what my Daihatsu Rocky had well and truly over the Yota, over 150k on the clock and still tight in the LSD. The Surf's only just hit 100k and I can feel it dying already...

Dear mark,leanne & bub
I am sorry to hear about your new toy.Col just phoned to say something smart about, you should have got a nissan,he doesnt really understand does he.On a brighter note 3 weeks to go and where off to the simpson its not to late to change your mind, dont tell leanne i said so.The smarty & i fitted the 60 litre water tank in the front storage area & plumbed it to the shower.Col said that its time you got over the troopie.I will send you some photos of us dragging his beloved nissan out of trouble.Hopefully you get the prado sorted soon otherwise col could become a bit of a problem.regards greyemu.
