Is Putty Rd suitable for 2WD

Could anyone tell me if Putty Rd is suitable for 2WD from Windsor through to the Broke Rd. I'm keen to know weather it is the better way to take to get into the Pokolbin district from Windsor. How much of it is unsealed?

The putty Rd is tar sealed & and has been since it was put in the the 1940's.
It will take you 1 5 hrs from Windsor to the Broke turn of.

Back in the late 80's in the silly hours of the morning you could get away with it. But these days {although the road is in much better condition } there is far too many other road users on the road and its just not safe not just for the rider .I dont want to terrorise car drivers. Back in the 80's you would pass maybe 30 or so cars during the day and maybe 5 cars at night on that road. These days its a few hundred.

Still a favourite run is wismans ferry to the Bicentanary road up to colo heights ,putty road to broke, back of Cessnock to maitland,maitand via the clance valley to Sth Bulladulla ,lake way through foster to taree.
Its the best way for a 4 hour run.woops make that 6 hour run in the terrano.

thinking about this.....a good run on unsealed roads would be wlberforce turn right at colo heights and run down to the ferry .Instead of crossing the ferry and going southside of the river stay on the nthside and drive through South sydney junoirs league club. this road runs on the nothern side of the river and takes you to wisemans ferry.
turn left on the sealed road near the ferry (200 yards from the ferry} and run into {turn left at the St Albans bridge} St Albans....Stop at the pub there {if there still one.} then head north up to the Big "A" hit the tar turn left again heading noth for the run up to wollombi follow the road to cessnock Broke area.

over 40 pecrcent of this run was dirt 20 years ago

Was a great run back in the 80's when I lived in Sydney

Mate sealed all the way from Wisemans to Cessnock via Wollombi now still dirt the back way to St Albans i used to like the run from the beginning of the freeway via old Pacigic Hwy to Peaks ridge then to the turn off to central mangrove to Wiseman for lunch then to wollombi for a beer and buy a bottle of Dr Jurds then to cesnock then back via the Putty great day ride, aahhh how i miss those days.

Ok, so if the putty road is sealed then it would be a good alternative for me from Canberra up north if I wish to avoid Sydney...Great Northern road to penrith then on to windsor and north coast via Maitland...Your comments please as swmbo hates the cumberland highway. Oh I would be towing my van.....

unsealed you can try goulburn black springs rd to oberon ,than up through mudgee to the duboo to newcastle rd.
only the black springs rd is unsealed and no traffic at all.

Going out thru the middle is a good option though but much longer.
