Shudder in GU diesel at low revs

Submitted: Saturday, Jan 01, 2005 at 10:21

Austravel

I get a small shudder when I just start to take off in 1st or reverse. It's a 4.2 turbo GU, leaf sprung. Almost feels like small axle tramp and not from the clutch. Is this normal??

Austravel -
It may be quite simple. Sounds like your Limited Slip Diff oil needs changing, and you are getting some chatter from the diff.

I use Penrites Limslip 140 in Nissans. (not the lighter 90/140)
Do a search of the Archives for other opinions.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all

I have had the same problem in my gu. I had water in my diff. i would check that first. If you talk to nissan they will probably tell you to buy some diff additive 250ml for about $86 dont worry about buying it. As for penrite oil sorry to the other users reply i have used penrite twice now once when i replace the oil in my diff after the water, i found when hot the oil thin too much and the shudder returned and next in my gearbox which is now in bits on my workshop floor. In just 6 months the oil was black and very very thin even when cold. I would not recommend this oil or use it again. I am now using castrol lsx90 in my diff and will be using castrol in my gearbox as well.

Happens when it's unloaded and loaded. Might just take it back and get them to check.
Thanks all.
