SHOCK HORROR

Submitted: Saturday, Jan 01, 2005 at 16:27

locallaw

I was given a COBB oven cooker for XMAS and SWMBO decided to cook some bread and butter pudding.
The unbelievable happened "SHE BURNT THE PUDDING"
I think I will slash my wrists over this.
O woe is me.

We have just partaken of a meal out of the Cobb. The first attempt she burnt the B&B pudding but the roast turned out perfectly. She is now in the middle of rectifying the first burnt offering by now baking another b&b pudding just to pacify me.I have been informed that it will take another 30 mins before she lifts the lid of the cooker.
I will return directly with the results of this latest event.

Footloose, i must confess after 35 years of me trying to get him housetrained, he doesn't do much around the house yet. Under pressure will sometimes take a turn at washing up, so long as i let him use heaps of detergent - more fun with bubbles! Says he can cook, so doesn't need to prove it - i can't vouch for that. Just recently will occasionally use a broom for a bit and a few other tricks which it has taken 35 years to learn. Oh yes, he can hang out washing. If i ask for help he usually finds something terribly important to do outside. Most times he needs my help then too! Gotta go - my lamb roast (not cooked in a Cobb) is ready - smells delicious. Nudenut I was referring to the cooking pot, not the cook. Sadly, neither the cook nor the driver come with guarentees. My cook has been crook for 12 months and it's been a revelation just how much she does around the place. Fortunately she's getting a bit better. But she's now taking over my kitchen , washing and housework !! I keep protesting but not very loudly :)))))

What is it about all I read about Cobbs that they seem to burn the bottom of the food you are cooking? Is it the distribution of heat isn't sufficient and it just concentrates on the bottom of the dish?

They should have it all worked out and tell you proud owners by now, surely.

John R you have caused to to rethink this matter

two probabilities here...
1. right amount of heat beads but pudding left in too long causing it to burn.....

2. Too many heat beads as budget is too high........

either or = incompentent cook....if you want right next time ....change the cook ...what do you say?

But it wont be easy..........lol lol lol

This is from the SWMBO or finance officer. For a first time effort, with the Cobb, I fed three people with roast beef, potato, pumpkin, sweet potato, onion, carrot and cauliflower and then cooked a truely lovely bread and butter custard, just as good as I would have in my oven. I might have taken a little longer to cook it but next time it will take less time. All this on 8 heat beads. I notice that Locallaw is sitting gorging himself on the pudding. The Dragon

Had some computer problems and couldnt open this thread earlier. Cobb is great once you get the different heating under control. There has been previously long discussions on using it and using a trivett on top of the plate helps the air flow and lessens burning on the bottom of dampers etc.

My answer for the threat of being replaced with a younger model for all SWMBO's is that with 75% of the capital most toys can be replaced and with an earlier model at that.

Carolyn SWMBO or else.......
