Two ways to check is dif is LSD if it's not written on housing.

#1. Jack up one wheel and see if you can turn it easily. If it is really hard to turn (and you've not left the handbrake on!!) then you've got an LSD. An open dif should turn without apparent restriction with one wheel up and one wheel on ground.

#2. Just for fun. Park cruiser pointing at side of Calais. Jack up one rear wheel. Start Cruiser and engage 2nd gear. Drop clutch with heaps of revs. If Calais lurches to one side and appears significantly damaged, you've got an LSD. If you get just lot's of noise, you've not moved and neighbours looking at you shaking their heads, you've probably not got one.

I'd suggest #1 first..... :-)

Try this...
Jack both wheels off the ground (handbrake off, trans in neutral)...
Rotate one (either) wheel by hand.. with an open diff, other wheel will rotate in opposite direction to the one you are turning...
If it's an LSD (and it's working), both wheels will rotate in the same direction...

Take the long number of the ID plate ( may start HDJ or similar ) to a good Toyota dealer and ask for the build sheets.
They can access this from there computors.
This info is world wide on the Toyota network

When SWMBO comes home I'll see if I can make use of the little daylight I'll have left, to try these ideas but I don't think option #2 will go down too well, although it's worth a try.

Another way is to get the car onto some grass or gravel, and do tight doughnuts. Look out the window (when turning right) and see if the inner rear wheel is scrubbing - i.e. it is driving at nearly the same speed as the outer wheel and slipping. If it is, you probably have LSD.

I thought they all had LSDs by 1994. Doesn't matter anyway. Most workshops use LS90 oil in the diffs whether limited slip or not. LS90 in an open diff is fine.

when I first went to service my camper I drove past a tyre joint and they jacked up the rear end I spun one wheel and the other rotated in to oppisite direction so no lsd

Find that irritating neighbour that has a bowling green for a lawn and every night on your way home they are standing in the front yard hand watering it for hours on end (because there is water restrictions and you can't use sprinklers, so hell just pour mega litires onto it with the garden hose instead!). Second gear, 4.5k on the tacho and slip your foot of the clutch.
If he's reallybleepoff with you, then you have an open diff, if he's REALLY - REALLYbleepoff with you have have an LSD. :-)

Note: I don't condone the destruction of other people's property nore do I suggest anyone actually do the above! :-P LOL

You can,t tell by ID Numbers or stickers on the Diff.
My Rear diff has a LSD sticker on it but it was taken out and replaced with a ARB Air Locker 150000km ago.. Try one of the other tests eg the one with the Calais.. Just joking..
