Poverty Point 4WD Track Cooloola NP QLD

Submitted: Tuesday, Jan 04, 2005 at 21:19

wizzard

Hello guys,
I am wanting to know how good/bad the 4WD track into Poverty Point is? Is there plenty of soft sand that would make the trip in a L300 with a load trecherous?
Cheers,
Wizzard

Hi,

Haven't done it for a little while but it was not a big drama when I last did it. It is low lying and subject to some water in places but you can skirt around this in most spots. There are no facilities such as water, toilets and showers so if you are camping it is full bush style and you need to be fully self sufficient.

If you go steady I would suggest you would be OK.

When you get in there make sure you have plenty of insect repellant as there are a lot of sandflies and mozzies to contend with.

Cheers

Wizard,

Its dead easy, as mentioned above the sandies & mozzies will carry you away in summer. The spot has plenty of shade and a couple of fireplaces [ not much hardwood around].Was there in Sept04 [just the max for pests]. Top spot in winter.

cheers

I was there only a couple of years ago for a repeat visit. Top spot but can see how there could be a lot of sand flies. You should have no dramas getting in just take it easy. First trip we had the place to ourselves, very nice.

You would get in there no worries bro with a little bit of care.

But why would you, it is a terrible place no facilities, peaceful, quite, no barsard there most often, (till you put it on the bloody net) right on the water. Alive with buzzin bightin bugs, it's a orrible place. You should go to rainbow or inskip with everybody else. If you go to poverty point you will make a crowd, have to make your own entertainment, put up with the outdoors, nothing to do but sit around the camp / fire or go fishin etc. what are you thinkin. Take the canoe if you have one.

Best of luck, don't forget the aeroguard mate!

Total fire ban at the moment to. If you want a fire take a drum and you will need your own wood.

Wizzard,
I was up at Poverty Point for New Years. The track is very easy, in fact a few soft roaders were up there as well as one of those Subaru's that are quite low.
I towed a trailer with no problems. Could have gone all the way in 2WD if I didn't care about making the track worse.
No soft sand to really speak of except for one maybe two 20m patches but underneath I think is hard.

Hope it helps

Richard
