Jim

Hi all,

Does anyone know the error light flashing codes for the Waeco cf range of portable fridges?

Thanks.

Mine flashes when there is insufficient power getting to it (eg the blueapplepack is running low) & wasn't aware there was a code so I looked out the guide book. There is nothing written about error codes. The only thing I could find was to make sure the battery protection switch was set to low if using on battery and if you are still having trouble the thickness of the cars wiring is probably insufficient. This was certainly the case with mine. Thicker wire fixed the problem immediately.

You can get the full info from the Waeco site, but if it flashes once every 4-5 secs unless you have dodgy wiring your battery is kaput. Been there done that just recently, had trouble accepting the battery was the prob as it would run my compressor and/or a 100W hand held spottie no prob.

Took it to a battery chappie who put it to a load test on his gizmo and it failed miserably.

End result ... new aux batt. Due to the electronics they are quite finicky in this regard and won't play if the battery is not 100% up to scratch.

P.S. Worked perfectly as soon as the engine was running as the 14 or so volts from the alternator overcame the prob of the dud battery.

Cheers

I also have this sometimes on my 50L waeco, but battery is new N70ZZ deep cycle and I only noticed at night when running flouro light from same wiring (two plugs next to each other) so I did'nt pay a lot of attention to it. I now have switch set to med and no more flashing light, and fridge works a treat.

I know that if it flashes once every 5 seconds it means that voltage is insufficient, however the other day I fired her up in 44 degree heat and the error light flashed 3 times every 5 seconds. The fan was running but the compressor didn't want to know and there was'nt any power draw registering on the ammeter, which is permanently hooked up to the fridge. About half an hour later, everything returned to normal. Very wierd. I am thinking that the heat probably had something to do with it but I would like more knowledge on this matter.

I will try the Waeco web site.

Thanks for the replies and happy new year to all!

Jim.

Jim,

My Waeco manual says that one flash every five seconds means insufficient power and any other pattern of flashes is something that will only be a problem that can be identified and fixed by a technician.

Cheers,

Jim.

One Flash

Can be caused by:

• Insufficient cable size
• Too many connections
• Poor connections
• Not designating fridge
with own direct circuit
from battery

Battery Protection Cut-Out

If the error light on your fridge flashes once every 5 seconds, it is definitely indicating that you have a voltage drop problem. This means that the wiring in your car may be inadequate to carry the correct amount of volts to the fridge. To test if this is the problem, plug the fridge into a suitable AC adaptor. If you find that the fridge works, you can eliminate that there is a problem with the fridge and the car wiring configuration or plug connections should be stringently checked.

We recommend car/motorhome/caravan wiring to be a minimum of 6-8mm cross section wire for up to 4 metres. Above this length the wiring would need an extra millimeter for every metre.

If the fridge does not work on the correct WAECO AC Adaptor, further investigation is required. Contact WAECO if this occurs.

Two Flashes
Fan over current cut-out

If the fan circuit in the control module has a load in excess of 0.5 Amps, the system will fail.

Three Flashes
Motor Start Error

If your error light is flashing three times every 5 seconds, the rotor may be blocked or the differential pressure in the refrigeration system is too high. Faulty compressor or faulty control module.

Four Flashes
Minimum Motor Speed Error

This failure occurs if the compressor is running slower than 1850 rpm.

Flash Flashes
Thermal cut-out of electronic unit

If the error light is flashing five times every 5 seconds, the refrigeration system has been too heavily loaded, or if the surrounding temperature is high, the electronics will run too hot. This is generally caused by not allowing enough ventilation around the vents of your fridge. To overcome this, simply ventilate your fridge more effectively.

mcgra,

That is precisely what I was after.

I already went through all the voltage/wiring issues when I first installed my fridge to the fourby and have sussed that all out by using monster cable and two 100 amp hour sealed lead acid batteries in parallel.

The fridge had run faultlessly up until that anomaly.

It's good just to have this info on hand I think.

It sounds like you possibly work with these fridges. If so, could you please answer a question for me?

Is the error code I described (3 flashes) a common fault with these units or do you think it was a one off anomaly?
