Diff breathers fitting of

I am intersested to hear if anyone has idea,s on diff breathers and the best way to set them up? I used to run a plastic pipe with a fuel filter on the end, but someone may know more Thanks to all for replies.

Hi Des, we had Robson Brothers extend the rear diff breather on our NK Pajero (seems the front one was done in factory). Don't know what sort of tubing they used except that it is black plastic of some sort ...and yes they just placed a fuel filter on the end. Piranha sell a diff breather kit with osmotic filters (let air in but not water) there was an article about the kit in the April 2002 edition of Aust 4WD Monthly (no. 39). Steve.

Des, i bought some rubber tubing from Clarke-Rubber & a couple of fuel filters.
Cable tie the tubing to several points where it's unlikely to get damaged, a fix the filters high up against the firewall under the bonnet.
Job done & all for under $20.

CJ, my Jack did have diff breathers fitted as standard & also transfer case & transmission breathers.
What i found was the rear one was only mounted up underneath the body - not nearly high enough - so i extended that up under the bonnet.
The three that were up under the bonnet were located at about mid point in the engine bay & they too were not high enough for my liking, so i simply moved them back to the firewall & fitted the fuel filters.

Whatever you do guys, don't forget to leave enough slack in the tube to allow for axle articulation and make sure the tube is clamped on well. It's no good getting back from the cape and all its creek crossings to find the tube got pulled off on the first big bump you hit after leaving home!

my 75 series has 3 breathers stock...i jioned them with a three way junctionwhich i put on top of the chassis between the chassis and body then drilled a hole in the body underneath on the inner side and grometed that and passed the tube up inside between the inner and outer body all the way to the roof......works well but remeber to paint around the hole youve drilled and silicon the grommet/tube in the hole ..........if you can get the truck in that deep then its a submerine
