I would suggest you use a 10W/30 grade oil for optimum fuel economy and maximum lubrication at start up. Its what the book recommends.
You can do your own
servicing as long as you use genuine or reputable parts and it is serviced as per the log book service schedual.

Most new cars from 2000 on use the 10W/30 oil and its good stuff. Obviously you have to take into account the ambient temperatures the vehicle will be operating in so if you are going across the Simpson you may have to run a bit thicker oil such as 15W/40 for that area.
