Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience with running one (or two) Hiclone units on medern 6 cyl. fuel injection engine. I am running a 100 Series L/C 4.5L dual fuel ULP/Autogas.

Any feed back will be appreciated.

Thanks John

John,

I had two in the Turbo diesel 80 Series. Was trying them out for a mate who was going to sell them. I found that they had no effect on performance or fuel uasage.

On a petrol they might make a difference. Running dual fuel it might be harder to set the right fuel air mix for both fuels.

At a 4WD show there was a rep from Hiclone and he had something like 20 Hiclones in his vehicle and he said it made a difference.

Doesn't matter what you run them on.

They are SNAKE OIL.

Even less credence on an EFI vehicle.

On a carby vehicle there could be some claim which would never be substantiated. On an EFI vehicle it is simply not possible to influence air flow IMHO.

My dear old Dad who is now 66 and worked on vehicles 55 years ago with his father who was a mechanical engineer tells me they were around then and were equally as useless 55 years ago as they are now.

They are nothing more than a bit of glorified metal, supposed to induce swirl into the induction process.

If they worked, why would not the likes of Mercedes-Benz (who invented ABS and shared it with every one else at no charge) have used it?

Just my thoughts.

Cheers,

Jim.

yeah like are we supposed to believe that the shytload of turbulence created by gases flowing past valves in a cylinder head (hardly laminar flow) would not induce enough mixing of fuel and air.

SNAKE OIL in my opinion

John,
I had 2 hiclones in the 3ltr turbo diesel Navara, I noticed a slight increase in power but I bought them for the increase in economy. My economy went backwards so I made use of the 30 day money back guarantee. Perhaps you could try them for the 30 day period and if not happy take them back.
A mate of mine had 2 of them in his 4.2 turbo diesel patrol and was so happy he bought another 2 and put them in as well.
In my opinion the 4.2ltr motor is a slug and anything would improve it, whereas the 3ltr motor is more of a high performance motor so it is harder to improve on it.
I think the toyota motor would be harder to improve as well.
If in doubt give them a try

I had a LIECLONE in my 73 series that the previous owner had fitted.
Left it in there for a few months to satisfy my curiosity and it made NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL !!!.

Ever wonder why these snake oil salesman never offer any independant scientific results?
.ANSWER Because they havent got any.
They rely on testimonials from "happy owners" who say silly things like "it seems to run smoother and have more power".
They omit the fact that as part of the LIEclone install, they recommend a complete tuneup and service.
This was all the owners car needed in the 1st place.

Oh and why does it work on one motor but not work on another identical motor?
ANSWER Because one owner took the bait and the other one didnt.

Have a close look at a lieclone. It probably costs $2-3 in some low wage country.
The mechanics and shop owners happily sell them because they get 50% of the sale price of up to $250 a unit.

I tried them, they didn't work so I got my money back. No problem at all.

Buy them, install them (easy) and return them if they don't work. Only trick is to make sure your tests are exactly the same before and after. Try from a point at the bottom of a steep hill to one at the top and time it, or from 0-100 on a flat piece of road and time it. Get good average fuel useages from several tanks doing similar work before trying, then try to do the same after.

I can vouch for the guarantee, so you've really go nothing to lose. May work in yours, didn't work in mine.

John-

I've got a set of 2 running on my 80- 4.5l petrol.

Had a bigger increase in economy putting on a high flow air filter.
The hiclones did nothing for me. I put them in after buying them off a bloke who said they had been sold on from another 2x 80 series owners. The only reason I'm still running them is coz im too lazy to take them out.

Save your money- get a K&N air filter or something proven instead.
