What 2 do & where to go in QLD for 3 weeks?

Submitted: Thursday, Mar 03, 2005 at 18:14

Andrew Smith

Hello there everyone,

I have 3 weeks to spare and have never before been 4x4ing in QLD.
(I will be leaving NSW Central Coast on 17th April to travel north).

I bank manager has her heart set on Fraser Island for a week, 1 down & 2 to go.

I have had a quick look at the TREK Notes but have not found a lot for QLD.

Can I have some suggestions on where to go & trek notes if possible?

I would like to stay south of Fraser if possible; I don’t really want to do a dash to the Cape or anything silly like that!! LOL...

We are fully self sufficient and am towing a Cape York Deluxe Adventurer 4x4 trailer for info.

Thanking you guys / girls in advance,
Regards,
Andrew.

Search Google for the Dirty Weekends (SE Qld) book, lots of places to go. Moreton, Straddie, the mountains, hinterlands etc. Wander around the border ranges, Sundown Nat Park....I could go on and on. Have a great trip.

Straddie or Moreton Island can be fun if sand driving is your thing. Day trip up the "North shore" from Tewantin to Rainbow Beach along the beach is a good run.
Heed all the warnings about trying to pass the rocks at the Rainbow Beach end though .... dig down deep enough and you will find quite a few vehicles that did not make it.

You may find a publication called "Dirty Weeknds in South East Queensland" worth a read. Dirty Weekends Link. He has quite a bit in there to keep you amused for a few weeks, including a few 4WD Parks.

Enjoy!! Love the place.

I have a jacked up 100 series with the big OME springs in the back and the LTR shocks and this seems to help with the weight. We travel with 3 kids and the front bin is always full and plenty heavy. The turning circ is no problem but keep in mind that the draw bar on the Extreme is 300mm longe than the Deluxe so as to give the larger Storage box.

The overall finish is of a standard unmatched in Australia.

Hi Andrew

There are heaps of place to go to, best idea would be to do searches on here or the web.
There are our lovely beaches, especially 40 mile otherwise known as Teewah or Coloured Sands north of Noosa, 2 nice Gorges Cania or Caranvon (info below) if you are going up that far?

Here are a few sites for you to go over though.
http://www.auswalk.com.au/carnarvon-gorge-walking-holiday.html
http://www.atn.com.au/qld/south/fraser.htm
http://www.frasercoastholidays.info/
http://www.atn.com.au/parks/qldparks.html
http://www.epa.qld.gov.au lists all N.P. and info required

If you're interested in a good people friendly N.P. try Girraween N.P. on the Nsw/Qld border but if you want something more 4WD challenging then try Sundown N.P. just opposite Girraween. (good for a day drive in if staying at Girraween)
I will not comment on a towing a trailer in as we never saw anyone with them.
Sundown is not generally visited because of the rough 4WD track into it.
Here you will take approx 2 hours to travel just the track into Burrows Waterhole which is quite a nice camp area.
You will need to carry EVERYTHING in and out.

Hope these help?
