Gday Banjo,you wouldnt happen to know what the article was about regarding opal fuel around Papunya region by any chance.We're heading through there in May and have been hoping that it would be avaliable by then as there is 2 ULP vehicles travelling with us.Tried contacting BP but they dont respond to emails,have rang the store at Papunya about 4 weeks ago but they still didnt have OPAL stocked.

Its nothing new...... been covered in recent times.

1. 37 communities across the outback (in 4 states) will get Opal.
2. The feds will subsidise it to keep prices the same as UL (you knew that) !
3. They have AVGAS currently which is sort of OK for cars but no good for sniffing.
4. Timing is "soon as their avgas runs out, its Opal".

No worries Melissa. I often speak to people who have travelled through these really remote places and run their petrol vehicles on Avgas with absolutely no discernible difference and certainly no ill-effect.

Hey, great website - had a bit of a squiz just now and have to have a good look thru when I get a bit of time. We live in Kalgoorlie and Cave Hill is a regular favourite spot for us and I've done the Holland track as far as Hyden from Kal but intend to do it again with Tracy soon so it was great to read your trip notes. Likewise i grew up at Esperance so know that country pretty well too & it was great to see you enjoyed your trip there too.

We loved the Holland Track & Cavehill Woodlines and were lucky to do both following just enough rain to fill all the rockholes and green the place up - just perfect. Re Esperance - a great region and we will probably spend our Christmas break there again this year.

Have you got "4WD Days in the Eastern Goldfields of WA"? The trips in that look good. We'd like to do most of them, perhaps incorporating them into a goldfields holiday. Got a lot on our plate this year though so will probably be Easter 2006 at the earliest.

Thanks for the advice re Avgas. We briefly considered travelling the Great Central Rd last year and rang Nissan about running Avgas in the GU. They said yeah you could...but they don't recommend it. So we were in a bit of a quandary about it. However, that trip was aborted in favour of the Murchison Gascoyne region so it saved us from having to make a decision. Nice to know that this will no longer be an issue on this route.
