ChrisB et al,
I have mounted a full GME4400 where the front-most sunglasses compartment is normally in my TD100 overhead console. It took a while to work out the correct bracket but having done it and been happy with its appearance, I have now transferred the arrangement successfully between 2 such cars. The front sunnies door unit completely clips out leaving a large hole which fills quite nicely with the bulk of the radio. The unit protrudes down at a pleasing angle without infering with anything else including the 2 switchable downlights. I then carry the microphone in the rear-most compartment with the curly cable slightly dangling between the radio and the rear most sunnies door. I use the inbuilt speaker (very legible).
It is quite easy to take the coax and power cable from the centre console over to the drivers side front pillar through the roof lining using a long piece of draw wire. Once down under the dashboard, the cable and wire can be taken out into the engine compartment via one of the existing rubber pass-throughs without compromising the firewall in any way.
I am happy to take a photo and post it to anyone who is really keen to see the appearance of the finished product. This shows that with a little ingenuity, it is possible to use what the car already has without having to purchase an after-market overhead console unit or suffer having a radio hindering your legspace.
