No problem with the travelling side of things but I reckon the pulleys and bolts on a 23 year old camper might feel the strain if you tried to lift the roof with the boat on top. I had a 2000 Jayco Eagle and carried a pair of 12kg kevlar kayaks on the roof. Only wound it up once with them still on and could certainly feel the difference in the winding apparatus. Bear in mind that your cables have to go round corners and there is an enormous strain on the pulleys and the bolts holding them down.

I have an 82 Millard camper and broke a wire the other month. $450 later I got that one repaired! The others were 'acceptable'. My wires go under the van so they were accessible. I was told the Jayco wires are behind the skin and other inaccessible areas. I thought the boat was supposed to be offloaded before putting up the roof? The struts holding up the Jayco roofs are not very substantial, hence a common sense worry about any extra weight.

Jayco recommend no more than 80kg (from memory) while travelling. Remove before winding up, firstly because of the winding mechanism, and also for windy conditions which may crop up after setting up camp.
