80 Series Timing Belt Lamp

Submitted: Sunday, May 01, 2005 at 23:30

Hi All

I've got a 90 model 80 Series 4.2 Diesel - Base model, with the timing belt light on. Does anyone have the reset procedure for these vehicles?

Thanks in advance.

Simon, why is the light on ? They are set to come on every 100K when the timing belt needs replacing. If you haven't already, get it replaced. If you don't, you could be up for a new engine.
To turn the light off, in the plastic cover to the dashboard instruments cluster there's a small rubber grommet about half way across. Prise it off, insert a small screwdriver or whatever and push gently.

I agree, get the belt changed now !!. This motor is an "interference" motor where valves etc will touch pistons if the timing belt goes - big $$"s to fix. I know of two recent cases where the belt was left 12000km past due date and let go.

Thanks for that. Don't worry I've had the belt changed but could never reset the light. I have tried the procedure you mention but without success. Is there a technique to it - Meaning do I need to maintain pressure on the panel for a period of time etc?

Thanks again

If pushing the button doesnt turn off the light, remove the bulb...that will fix it...
Then make note of the kms for next time...
