goodday eric

we always stop at the top tourist park in pt augusta down near the water and can listen to the trains at night we stayed at big 4 1 night but found it a bit noisy as its right on the corner of the main hwys

steve
ps ithink there is only ` dugout motel or you can roll out the swags underground at rebas about 5ks out of town but its not a bad place to stay as fees include an underground mine tour etc

you find the trains quieter than the cars GOB? Boy O' Boy.

We stayed in the big 4 at Port Augusta and found it to be fine. From memory, I don't think the cabins are near the road anyway but check 1st.

Near the highway would be a bit noisy

There is a caravan park in Coober Pedy but it looks kinda dry and uninviting.

We stayed underground, can't remember the name of the place. Go through town and turn right at the drive in. It was friendly, comfy and teh dust storm didn't bother us at all.

Duncs.

Eric, I have stayed at both places Mike has mentioned, in fact every time I go to Port Augusta I stay at Shoreline. The backpackers accomm is nice, with a small kitchen. When we stayed there we had the dorm all to ourselves, only problem was I forgot to set the alarm and awoke at 10am...it is pitch black underground.

Have fun

If you don't mind staying a short distance out of Port Augusta, try Spear Creek Caravan Park, Old Wilmington Road Stirling North, PH 8643 6668. Very quiet, no main roads close by (or train tracks!) and run by nice people.

cheers

Hi Eric,
We just came back from around that way a couple of weeks ago and we stayed in Cooberpedy at a place called Ribas Caravan Park, its only a few kms out of town, they have interesting poered sites and the best part is that they have a TV room and internet access underground where you can escape the flies, and they have nice clean facilities and a camp kitchen for use. It was very quiet when we were there but would imagine it would get busy in peak times.

Cheers
