Repower 89 Patrol

I have an '89 GQ Patrol 4.2 petrol/LPG that getting a bit tired after 300,000km. We have had a few problems with the LPG and with blockages in the carby over the years and have had trouble getting LPG in places so I am thinking of a heart transplant with a 4.2 diesel. We test drove some 2nd hand GU diesels but were not impressed with the lack of power in the Turbo 4.2 or the noise of the Intercooled Turbo 3.0. I have read a couple of articles on supercharged diesels that sound promising. I am starting to realize that if I want the advantages of diesel I will have to put up with much less power than the petrol/lpg engine.
Has anybody fitted a 4.2 diesel with a supercharger?
Can I get a centrifugal type supercharger to suit ?
Is the positive displacement type supercharger noisy ?
Does a factory turbo diesel have the same bearings, oil pump, etc as the normally aspirated one ?
Is there any difference between the GQ and GU 4.2 diesels ?
Would a GU 4.2 bolt into my petrol GQ engine mounts and bell housing ?
Do diesels and petrols use the same radiator, altenator, air con pump, etc ?

whith the all up cost you prob will be happier with a chev diesal. Call your local supplier (in perth it is brunswick diesals) and you will be able to get a dido price with no hidden xtras like in a custom supercharge job

the fuel consumption will be better than the TB, but worse than the TD42

You pay me $16,000- for the donk in my 4.2 and I'll be able to afford a 6.5 chev. Problem solved....too easy.

I have a '96 GQ 4.2 diesel and my mate has a 2000 GU 4.2 non turbo,They are pretty much identical except for the vacuum pump for the brakes.It is on the back of the alternator on mine,while it is on the frontof the motor on the GU. -Steve
