camping at muloorina station, lake eyre

Hello All
We head off in 3 weeks for the centre, via Lake Eyre. From reading past treads it appears muloorina station is the spot to camp when visiting Lake Eyre. Do we need to make contact with station owners before arriving, or is this just an abandoned station we can arrive at and camp. Looking forward to feedback.

It is indeed a top spot to camp. Sandy flat spot next to a lagoon fed by the bore. Flushing toilets, no showers. No need to contact the owners, fees into an honor box as you drive in. Camp a little back from the waters edge, the horses come in for a drink at daylight. The road out to the lake is not maintained very well and is corrogated sand, so lower pressures before you head out and take it easy.

Kate,

I was there last year and yes nice place to camp. You can contact the station but there is a self registration booth at the camp ground. There is plenty of space and I hope you have a good trip. Well worth doing a flight over the southern end of Lake eyre if the charter mob is still flying out of Moree. There is another one from Wiliam creek. I took some awesome photos that some people couldn't even recognize. Some of the land forms look like the surface of the moon. Well worth it, but do it at around mid day when you don't have many shadows.

Cheers,
Hughesy

Kate,

Muloorina Station is a sheep and cattle station and has camping facilities on the bank of the Frome river, ( their swimming pool) that has water into it from one of the bores.
They also have accomadation at the shearers quaters. You should however contact them on 08 8675 8341 prior to going there.
I worked there some years ago as a station hand and heading back there soon for a trip and to visit Lake Eyre again.
