Been chasing why the engine check light has been coming on for the last few days. Looks like I have tracked it down to the fuel cap not seating properly. No, not a joke......... turns out that the ECU does a vacuum leak check on the evap. side of the fuel system in order to keep fuel emisions down to comply with OBD II Californian Emision Standards. Cleaned some lumpy bits from the filler neck where the cap seats and shes good to go!
Something to keep in the back of yer head for latter...........col

While Im at it, the 2L has air shroud injectors. There is stuff all info around for these, in principle it helps vaporise the fuel better at idle, but I would like more detail as to air flow etc. Also the front two injectors are orange top and the rear are green, why? Is it grouped and not sequential injection? please help..........col

Fuel cap is notorious for that, give it a good twist when you fill up until it clicks ~3-4 times. There are a few other idiosyncrasies that you may well encounter relating to the connectors on the Maf, IAC, and TPS, as well as a dodgy splice in the loom in the automatics.

Thanks Gary, replaced the oxygen sensor a couple of days ago. You can buy a universal one that is about half the price of an OEM one. ie $105 and not $240.

Ive got two Kia - long and short wheel base (Sportage and Grand Wagon).
Engine warning can also come on for oxygen sensor or air leak into intake manifold.
