I just came back from the shop with my daughter and she asked how cold it was in melbourne. I told her that it was half of what the current temp was here and she had a jumper and trackies on. It was 18C here.

Even though its great living here there is more to life than camping and fishing. The kids are getting older and there is schooling etc to think of for them. Now onto your secret spot. I see you have a tinnie so you want somewhere that you can get out to by boat but not too far. There are lots of different spots but what works good one day might produce nothing for the next 20 days you go there. If you have a sounder a spot I used to like going to is on the other side of Roebuck Deeps which is the channel that leads into the wharf area. Launch your boat at the boat ramp that is at the end of the car park (Not the first one closest to the jetty) and head straight out until the water starts to get deep (around 90 metres) then when its starts to rise again on the other side is where you want to be. You have to search a bit using your sounder but along this edge somewhere is a really good spot for Blue bone. As for the other secret spots you will have to e-mail me as I am not going to repeat them here.

I know what you mean about kids but mine have grown up (24 and 26) but the oldest one still lives at home. So you understand why I might be trying to get away as opposed to bonding closer.

All to familiar with the vageries of fishing but there is nothing like some local knowledge to narrow down the search when time is limited. I have recently added a sounder to the tinnie so should be in a position to find changing depths without too much trouble. I appreciate this tip because my mate does not have a sounder so he could just miss out - great to have a mate like me hey - but we are competitive.

BTW How do you go with your RB-30? My GQ has a RB-30 as well. Have you had any problems with it in terms of being under powered?

The RB-30? Underpowered? Yeah... a little. I've done a couple of things to pep it up though, and they do make a difference.

1) Remove the pre-heater gauze from the carby.
2) Install Genie extractors or equivalent
3) Get a good tune done by a carby specialist - and get them to overhaul it with a full kit while you're at it.

I've bought myself a full Nissan RB-30 out of a VL. It had smashed bottom ends, so I got the whole long motor for $250. I/m going to migrate all the fuel injection gear across to my motor when I get time. This should help not only power (maybe... ) but allow me to point the car skywards for longer than a minute before the carby's float bowl empties.

Failing all that - I have a roots blower sitting on the shelf..... :)

Righto - the pre-heater gauze. No - it's in the carby, not in the air pre-cleaner. Four bolts to undo the carby and then it's pretty obvious where it is. I'll try and find a picture in the manual and scan it for you........ Oh! Wait! I just remembered that I lent my manual to a mate - who hasn't returned it in over 6 months :(

I dunno - I reckon that it had a little more than before I turfed it. Hard to tell without a dyno.

Property in Broome is a good investment if you can afford it. Broome is a boom town at the moment although things have slowed somewhat like it has everywhere. if you contact the Broome advertiser Im sure they will send you a copy of the local paper.
