GQ 4.2 DIESEL EXHAUST

I have '92 lwb mav with 4.2 diesel non turbo with genie extractors and orig standard exhaust system. Can anyone recommend a pipe size and muffler to complement extractors without a booming noise ? Have had 2.5 in. with Lukey straight- thru long barrel truck muffler( packed with some type of glass fibre) recommended by two exhaust shops. They seem to think a resonator at the rear as is in place now would not be necessary. Hope someone out there can help. Mike.

They arent too loud, and depending on what day it is, some say they make a difference, I think its just the noise that does it, making you think your now in an F1-11..

I had that 2.5 on my GQ diesel before the Turbo went on, and now have another Mandral bend 2.5 that comes with the turbo kit. As for the Muffler, Im not sure, it was just what ever they said was the go... I wouldnt know the difference.

Some of the guys are runnin straight thrus on their 3.0GU's now for better effort, adn saying it isnt that much louder, which I somehow doubt.

Michael, We put a 3" mandrel bent exhaust and straight through muffler on our 97 L/C turbo wagon. It's noiser but not to the extent of being LOUD!. The muffler is big, about 600 mm long, and almost 200mm in dia. Has made the wagon more economical, and it pulls much better now, especially on long ascents. Bought it from Beaudesert muffler shop in Qld, they do mail orders. Ads in 4WD Monthly.

Hi Michael, i have a 92 patrol diesal, i fitted a 2.5 in pipe with extractors and a straight through muffler, the noise in the cab was unbearable. Went back to the shop and they replaced the muffler with a ford v8 stainless muffler, solved the noise problem. I also fitted finer filters which complimented the exhaust, so got more power and better fuel economy. Col

Hi Michael, awhile back now but it was done under $250 for the exhaust, including extractors, the filters for the pre cleaner and main filter where about $70 a piece. I know what you are looking for and i solved the problem by fitting a super charger, now it has balls and will walk over a turbo any day. Col

Hi Michael, the S/C is the same unit fitted to the v6 commodore, and all parts are available over the counter, i have had the unit on for about 25000ks, and have had no problems at all. The unit is fully servicable ie oil bushes and bearings. If something goes wrong you can take the belt off and keep driveing with no problems. I paid $5500 about the same as a turbo with a intercooler. The unit also doesnt have to be idled down, you can switch off as normal. You can also change the boost by replaceing the pully, 5 min job. If you do a lot of towing this is the way to go. Col.
