HI All. My Rodeo is now 3yrs of age. I have had it serviced every 5kms since new.
+ the schedule? service. I am now thinking of doing the oil change& filter myself
to save a few $. I am no mechanic but what else would I want to do when I change the oil&filter&rotate wheels. Help required. Thanks Brian

Doing much the same myself for some years now Brian with my 99 TD Jack - re "what items should be done" - simply put , I do what the book says, using top quality materials. That puts me miles in front of the dealers workshop already !! They skip items (some important) and use budget materials where they could get away with it. The main departure from the book for me is oil changing intervals are reduced (was 5000k for the donk - now 7500) - the other oils are done at about half the rec in the book too. I use Castrol products and I don't skimp - I intend to keep the car for years yet.

er.... I forgot something too....... as usual....... when the schedule calls for something beyond me, I get a mechanic I trust in the suburbs to do that, or if all all else fails, and the chips are down, don't know where else to turn, I grit my teeth and go to a dealer (gulp) - such as in the case of valve adjustment !

I know what your saying. We always use genuine parts whilst the vehicles are under warranty. We do most of the work ourselves but get a local "A" grade mechanic to sign off on the book for warranty purposes. Change the oil on all the Toyota's and Rodeo every 5,000 km and Filters at the 10,000 km interval.
We fitted a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve

Makes changing the oil a simple task. The Rodeo has travelled some 30,000 of Outback Roads with no problems.
Good luck.
