About to leave on trip to Broome next Thursday and have urgent need to fit new rubber to windscreen on the 80 series L/C.
Being Sunday I can't find out prices and, as their is some doubt about windscreen repairers having the rubber on hand, I am keen to get an idea of the difference in genuine and non genuine rubbers prices .
More importantly I need to know availability of the rubber whether it be genuine or not here at the Gold Coast.
Can make a trip to Brisbane if necessary.

G'day Pedro,

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I few years ago we rebuilt an FC Holden and had no choice but to use after market rubbers. It was in WA we rebuilt her and we got the rubbers from a company called "Rare Spares" bases in Osbourne Park, just around the corner from ARB.

The rubbers were still as good as new after 10 years. So I guess I'd re use them again.

I think a spotted a "Rare Spares" around Brisbane last weekend (not sure exactly where it was, but I think it was around the Valley somewhere).

The other place that might be worth ago is "Clark Rubber". I've found allsorts in there getting bits for the storge shelfs for the back of the truck.

Regards,

Jason

The fellow that does all our windscreens recommends to fit nothing but genuine ones to 80 series. He has had nothing but dramas with after market ones. The quote I had when I had my 80 was around the $350.00 dollar mark. Expensive but if he has had the dramas he say he has it is not worth using the crappy cheaper ones.

are you talking about just the rubber bits or the whole arm??? $350 - wow!

Mine on the 120 prado were replaced during the 40,000km service and cost under $50. What is so special about the ones on the 80???

Thanks for the quick replies.
Background is that I have been down the stikaflex path, followed by removal and refitting of windscreen, without success.
It was only today that with the use of a fire hose we were able to pinpoint that the problem is most likely in the rubber.
After a through hosing, when the rubber was pressed in from the outside in the area where water was daming up outside , it squirted water back inside the rubber and onto floor.

I understand the non genuine is about $140 , and for peace of mind the extra money for the genuine might be the go.

Thanks again.
