BFG Ko tyres

Will

I put a set of these tyres 45000km ago.... and I am experiencing one leaking (nobody can find where from) apparently through the wall.
and at slow speeds they wobble....
Two friends also fitted them and both have experienced the same, apparently they separate inside, one of them had to
replace it as it blew a hole on the sidewall, another one is going back to BFG as it was leaking through the
sidewall...
Has anybody experienced any of these problems??

Yes if youre talking about BFG Allterains. One had a slow leak. The tyre repairer said it had a pin hole through the sidewall (they put a tube in), its really baffled me as to how this happened I put it down to vandalism, but maybe its not. Itll be interesting to read other responses. Maybe theres a fault.

Hi Will
We use BFG A/T for our tours and are on our 2nd set. We had a slow leak in the two front tyres that turned out to be a grain of sand that made its way down between the bead & rim after letting pressure down on Stockton tours.
I took both tyres off and cleaned the rim/bead - no problems since

Thanks for the tip, in my case thats all it was....!!! The others were not as lucky. I am glad mine were fine.
I was surprised how big the rocks between the bead and the rim were and how deep in the got to.

I make a point of observing what tyres the locals use. From Inamincka to Birdsville I counted five shredded tyres discarded on the side of the road, and guess what, they were all BFG all terains.When I arrived at Birdsville I checked out the locals cars and tyres. Most of them were running Goodyear Wrangler A/T which are identical to Dunlop Adventurers. Ive been running them ever since and now swear by them

I was just abour to buy a set of ATs. Did a search and found that BF Goodrich has not made tyres for over 10 years. BFG are made by Mitchelin. Might look around for something else. They say coopers are good. ???

Yep - all US tyres except Cooper and Goodyear are owed by non-US companies and AFAIK only Cooper and Goodyear are made in the US. The only problem with Cooper is lack of outlets stocking them. Because of Michelins marketing power you can buy BFG almost anywhere (all 3 tyre shops in the small town where I live stock BFG).

Hi Joel, I ran BFG ATs for 20 odd years and had no problem with them, apart from clogging in mud, as I would expect, and a bit iffy on wet bitumen.
My local dealer was keen to get some New Cooper STs out in the market place and offered me a good deal on them. To say I am impressed by them would be an understatement. For more detailed info feel free to contact me.

Hi Will. I've been using BFG All Terrains 31x10.5 R15s for 4 years all over Australia and am on my second set. The only problem I've had with them has been one rear pair developed stress fractures. I think this is because 6 months earlier after a sandy wet boggy cross I ran them 20k on too low a pressure (20psi)between river crossings across some pretty rough tracks. Normally I tow an off road trailer and this adds extra weight as does the lpg tank and the gear I carry. The tyres have been excellent and worn well when others with me get punctures I don't. I did 25000k in 3 months. What I have found is that you need to experiment with tyre pressure to suit your vehicle. On highways towing I find 40-42psi is great on these tyres and down as low as 22psi in sand. Handling is good on the road provided the suspension is good if its worn the tyres don't do as well. Peter

We had seperation of the plates on an old set. They came with the car so don't know how old or whatever but was told that if they are swapped across to other side to rotate in different direction, this can happen. From that, we bought some brand new ones 2 months ago and they have been good so far.
