The reason I did not buy a petrol engine. Hopefully my consumption may actually improve slightly once it is run in.

With 52.85 litres I can travel, oh, lets say about, 322.385km :-( That's my 100 series RV petrol. But it does sometimes puts a huge smile on my face when I cruise up a hill, fully loaded, with the caravan on the back and leave the smell of diesel behind me! :-) If you want power petrol is the way to go, if you want economy then diesel has it by a nose, if you want long term low cost running pertol has it all the way, from birth to rebuild! I have had the vehicle for two weeks now, but due to work, christmas, and an impending wedding in another two weeks, I haven't been able to get off road yet. Onroad the car is great. I travel around 60kms a day to and from work, which is mainly the Monash freeway on Melbourne. This varies between 100kmh to 0kmh traffic. Economy has improved slightly, with the last tank full being only work/running around the city, and no highway travel. If purchasing again, I would have a carry boy canopy. They are up to 1K dearer, but match the height of the roof, and fit better. Mine in a Flexiglass. It sticks up slightly higher than the roof, which may affect economy also, but main makes a fair bit of wind noise.

The V6, hmm, reasonable power, but not sure on toyota motives with the exhaust. It has the crapiest manifold I have ever seen, and because of limited room between the engine and firewall, a crushed bend (not mandrel bend) on the passenger side cylinders. I will be looking into a decent set of extractors, and bigger exhaust, as I believe the power a decent power increase would be possible. Also, it seems that revving the engine is quite pointless after 3500 rpm, as it pulls better below that rpm. The best rpm range is from aroung 1500rpm to 3500 rpm. The engine get quite noisy above 3500rpm also. This is also opposite to what one of the 4x4 mags said in their review.

The vehicle I bought is a V6 Hilux SR5 in gun metal grey, I only got he SR5 as the dealer gave me a good deal, only about $3K more than the standard hilux, with the same extras on both vehicles.

I was leaning towards the carryboy canopy based solely on looks but interesting to hear that yours is noisy. Might have to drive one and see how it goes. How much does a carryboy canopy go for? I expected about $2000.

My canopy was $1700 including colour coding, with only sliding windows on the sides. I was quoted by a different dealer, i think, $2900 for a carry boy, but it was a special that included a ute liner also. Don't know if the special is still available.

I believe that on a decent highway trip, I might get around 11lt per 100km, which is pretty good for a 4x4. I will also be investing in some jerry cans, three will nearly double the range of the vehicle off road.

Was told by dealer not to expect any more Hilux's before mid January and they're probably sold already! Anyone know where I can find a V6 manual for sale?? Going to Faser Island mid Feb and want a new car by then.
PS still haven't decided between the V6 and the turbo diesel either.
